Important information about River Notes.
With the California Cooperative Snow Surveys March snow course measurements nearly complete, the Kern River basin snowpack is reported to be at about 108% of normal for the date, or about 96% of the April 1 seasonal total.
Look for warmer temperatures this weekend with highs in the seventies in the Lake Isabella and Kernville area. The Upper Kern is at about 450 cfs this morning, and the warming trend should result in some increase in the flow over the next several days. Paddling classes and trips start March 13. Take advantage of the warmer weather (and early bird pricing) and make your reservations for our Kayaking 101 class now!
03/10/2004 7:00 A.M. Upper Kern reported at 865 cfs, Lower Kern at Borel at 477 cfs. High temp at Kernville RAWS yesterday was 83.
Sierra South’s 2nd Annual Spring Sale is April 3-4th! Get a jump on what is expected to be a great river season! For one weekend only, we will have a killer sale on all new stuff… Boats, paddles, gear… Everything! Sat-Sun 9am-5pm. Don’t miss out!
New for 2004! Liquidlogic has come up with what we feel are the best river running boats since the RPM The Hoss and Lil' Joe offer great river running predictability, simple & elegant outfitting, and a playful, roomy hull. It keeps you smiling in the same comfort you have come to love in your "old school" boat. Features include, great looking very stiff plastic rotomolding, adjustable bulkhead, a nice fitting ratcheted backband, four bucket hand holds on the deck for rescue, and easy adjustable thighbraces. This boat will quickly become a favorite on our local river.
New in '04 from Dagger are the all-around freestyle/downriver boat, the Juice, and the new creek boat, the Nomad. The Juice 6.9 and Juice 7.1 are the best outfitted boats Dagger has ever produced. Some of the features include the Vector/Rebound Seat Pad -- the best in the industry; Easy 2" adjustable thigh braces; Flipswitch Backband for an easy in/easy out fit; 6-Way air adjustable hip pads, and a D-Bone hull stiffener. This boat should become a new classic. Dagger has always been known for making great creek boats (think Freefall, Gradient, & CFS). Now, the Nomad (8.1 & 8.5) sits nicely as king of the mountain. Team D has added a bit of length for better speed and handling in big water. This boat is still short and quick enough for the craziest of creek runs.
Few paddlers would argue that Eric Jackson is one of the most accomplished freestyle paddlers and boat designers on the planet. His hull designs are legend, integrating performance into a friendly-to-paddle boat. Now EJ is not only paddling and designing boats, but manufacturing them! Been looking for a fun to paddle boat that tears up waves and holes, can go vertical or get air, is very lightweight, has foot and leg room... and has no leaky mounting holes drilled in the hull? We are now accepting deposits for boats in the Fun Series. Please call the Store at 760-376-3745 for more info.
